Family Funday at Galway Atlantaquaria to celebrate Science Week 2012
Galway Atlantaquaria in partnership with Discover Science and Engineering will host a Family Funday to celebrate the launch of Science Week on Sunday the 11th November. Running from 11am to 5pm the event is aimed at people of all ages. Key guests on the day will include the “Mad Scientist” and his energy show, underwater film-maker Victor Kutischev of Underwater-Ireland.com, “Captain Black John” and his cartoon classes, diving demonstrations by Galway Dive Club and much, much more for a fun filled, family day out.
As well as the different talks and shows that will be happening, experts from different areas will be on hand to chat to the public. Ever wanted to know more about Ireland’s underwater coral reefs? Or about the solar system?
Specialists from NUI Galway Ryan Institute, CoralFish, the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, Irish Elasmobranch Society, the Galway branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust and the Galway Astronomy Club will all have stands in the aquarium on the day.
There will be lots of fun activities for children to get involved in. They can roll up their sleeves and get involved in some interactive science experiments as well as trying out our arts & crafts area where in conjunction with the Irish Elasmobranch Society they can enter a competition to name the recently tagged Porbeagle sharks.
Jumping Clay will also be there with their unique brand of mouldable clay, while face painting and storytelling will appeal to even the youngest children.
This event runs from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sunday the 13th November at Galway Atlantaquaria, Salthill. It is taking place as part of the annual Science Week celebrations which sees hundreds of different events taking place around the country.
Specially discounted admission rates to the aquarium and the exhibits will apply on the day. For more information contact Galway Atlantaquaria on 091 585100, email
