Bjorn the Polar Bear returning to Galway Atlantaquaria as part of World Ocean Day Celebrations

 

            

Bjorn the Polar Bear will be making a return trip to the aquarium on Sunday May 30th when the Marine Institute together with Galway Atlantaquaria join forces to celebrate World Ocean Day. An incredibly realistic life-size adult male Polar Bear, Bjorn is playful and mischievous but huggable too. Bjorn travels with his keeper and Arctic Explorer, Ursula.

Visitors will have the chance to meet the Arctic pair in their ice environment setting at the aquarium  11pm, 1pm and 3.00pm early arrival is advisable.  A whole day of fun has been organised with Dale Tredwell from Naturally Wild, Vincent Hyland seen recently on RTE’s Living the Wildlife and celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Dr.Seuss’ book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish with story telling and arts and crafts and face painting.

Demonstrations and exhibits will also feature other Irish partners including the Western Regional Fisheries Board, the Environmental Change Institute, and DERI NUI Galway.

 Liam Twomey director of Galway Atlantaquaria says”This is our forth year celebrating World Ocean Day, the seas are as important to us as it’s the air we breath. The aquarium endeavours to get the message of the sea to the community in a subtle and user friendly manner.  Bjorn our Bear has trekked across two continents to be with us again is looking forward to a "not too warm" Galway welcome...well you can't please everybody.
